I was in VS-34 from mid 62 to early 63. Was an AT2 assigned to the Operations Dept. Participated in Cuban Missile Blockade while aboard the USS Essex.

After being discharged from the Navy in 1963, I returned with my wife, Lillie, and family to Lafayette, Indiana. I went to work on the night shift in a factory and re-entered Purdue where I finished up work on my undergraduate degree in Industrial Education and graduated in 1966. I then became a corporate personnel manager and worked for several different companies over a span of about 20 years. Then, in the mid 80s, I developed an interest in computers and ended up as an office manager for a group of computer geeks (I can say that because I'm a geek, too!) at Purdue who provide access to and maintain a host of very specialized agricultural databases.
My wife and I both enjoy good health and have become great advocates of the mental health strategy of "use it or lose it." This is a big reason why I keep working past the customary retirement age of 65. At the moment, I am planning on retiring at the end of February, 2009. My job is relatively free of pressure and working in a nerdy atmosphere helps keep me current with the latest technology. I have literally grown up with the Internet and have actually become an Internet and email "junky" of sorts.
I belong to an international seniors email group and swap stories on a daily basis with several English speaking friends from around the world. Our host server is maintained by a fellow in Auckland, New Zealand and we have members from New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, Finland, England, Scotland, Wales, France, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, and of course many in the U.S. We have periodically had "gatherings" and Lil and I have been to five of these in Seattle, Washington; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Osaka, Japan; Auckland, New Zealand; and Sydney, Australia.
