I am looking for information for the time period Mar 1961-April 1961, when the squadron deployed to Cuba. Anyone on board for this cruise I would like to talk about it.
Thank you for the warm welcome.... I am presently retired and living next door to NAS Pensacola.... just watched the "Blue Angels" this last weekend.
I typed out some comments and then forgot to push the "add Comment" tab... so I'm doing this again.
Tom I have read your excellent story of your time in the service... it brings back many memories and was a joy to read. I sent an article to USS Essex web site some time back and I would like to add it to this site... (16) pages ...if I knew how. It is on word... if you send me an E'mail address I will forward it to you... Many of us were Plank members of VS34 and we sure knew VS31 and competed against them most of the time.
Thanks Ed for your response, do we have any of the 1960-1961 guys aboard? I still have my flight log and "yellow sheet" numbers up through 1973 when I finally left the active reserve.

I know we've never met but I see you are from Navarre, FL. That's just down the road from Destin which my wife and I "discovered" many, many years ago almost by accident. Destin is the heart of the "Emerald Coast" and rightfully boasts the finest sugar sand beaches on the planet. We haven't been back there for several years and I know there has been a hurricane or two thru there in the last decade.
But we do hope to get back there, one day.
