I was on active duty from October 1964 until October 1966. I joined
VS-34 as an Airman and almost immediately went to aircrew training in
NAS Key West and electronics at NAS Norfolk. I was promoted to
Photographers Mate 3rd class @ 1965. Normally a photographer's mate
would be assigned to ships company when we would go to sea. In that I
was an aircrewman I stayed with the Squadron and worked in operations as
a yeoman. I did the flight schedules and updated pilot log books. I
received my aircrew wings in 1966 from Commander Stone. Some of my
friends would be Larry Haines (he was and AE) and Curt Moebius. I flew
with LCDR Larry Shape, Ted Dubs, Jim Lee, Wild Bill Waldheim and many
others. During my active duty I flew off the Essex and Randolph, I ended
up with @ 85 carrier landings and @ 400 hours flight time.
I am the proud owner of
"Advanced Wireless Communications" After the navy I was able to use the G.I Bill to get my pilot training and Advance Wireless Communications provides the means of my haveing an airplane to fly.

Of course I remember you. We all started out our lives as Proud Tigers. You were an outstanding AirCrewman and it was a pleasure flying with you. I only hope that you have been able to get past some of the terror that I created for you while trying to "get aboard". Jim
